Other documentation related to digital identity
Digital identity projects are integrated into a broader European regulatory ecosystem, aligned with frameworks such as eIDAS (electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services). These initiatives aim to harmonize the standards and procedures for digital identity across EU Member States, ensuring secure, interoperable, and legally recognized identification solutions. By adhering to these regulatory requirements, digital identity projects contribute to a unified digital landscape that fosters cross-border trust, facilitates seamless access to public services, and supports the growth of digital economies across Europe.

The Architecture and Reference Framework (ARF) Ouvre une nouvelle fenêtre
On 3 June 2021, the European Commission adopted a Recommendation on a Common Union Toolbox for a coordinated approach towards a European Digital Identity calling on Member States to work closely together with the Commission towards the development of a Toolbox including a technical Architecture and Reference Framework (hereinafter the ARF), a set of common standards and technical specifications and a set of common guidelines and best practices.
The Recommendation specifies that these outcomes will serve as a basis for the implementation of the European Digital Identity Regulation, without the process of developing the Toolbox interfering with, or prejudging the legislative process.
EUDI Wallet Reference Implementation Ouvre une nouvelle fenêtre
The EUDI Wallet Reference Implementation is built based on the Architecture Reference Framework and aims at showcasing a robust and interoperable platform for digital identification, authentication and electronic signatures based on common standards across the European Union.
The EUDI Wallet Reference Implementation is based on a modular architecture composed of a set of business agnostic, re-usable components which will be evolved in incremental steps and can be re-used across multiple projects.
OpenID for Verifiable Presentations Ouvre une nouvelle fenêtre
OpenID for Verifiable Presentations is a specification that defines a protocol for requesting and presenting Verifiable Credentials (VCs). This protocol enables secure and privacy-preserving interactions, allowing individuals to present proof of their credentials without exposing unnecessary personal data. By leveraging established OpenID Connect standards, it provides a trusted framework for sharing VCs across different systems, ensuring interoperability and enhancing the trustworthiness of digital identity transactions.
OpenID for Verifiable Credential Issuance Ouvre une nouvelle fenêtre
OpenID for Verifiable Credential Issuance is a specification that outlines a protocol for the issuance of Verifiable Credentials (VCs) using OpenID Connect. This standard provides a secure and interoperable method for organizations to issue digital credentials to individuals or entities, ensuring that these credentials can be independently verified by third parties. By leveraging the existing OpenID Connect framework, it allows issuers to manage and authenticate digital identities while maintaining privacy and security. This approach facilitates the seamless integration of verifiable credentials into digital identity ecosystems, empowering individuals and organizations to control and share their credentials in a trusted manner.
